What I Could Do As a Copywriter

I present to you a 30 second tv commercial I wrote on a whim. The names of the companies have been changed to protect my bottom. All you really need to know is that "Myer" is a retail store and "Scotty" is, well that one's more obvious.


Myer “The Difference” : 30 Television

SFX: Birds chirping, shopping carts rolling.

FADE-IN MS: Myer Garden Center EXT a husband at wife is facing the Myer and “Scotty” Fertilizer in the pallet racking. Behind the couple is a tree pit.

WIFE: So which one should be get?

MCU: Husband

HUSBAND: Um.

MCU: Wife

WIFE; Well, which one is better?

MS: Hudband and Wife

HUSBAND: Well I-

FS: Man enter stage right.

MAN: Well this one (pointing to the Myer brand) gives my grass thick roots.

FS: Man exit stage left. Woman with shopping cart enter stage left.

WOMAN: Well this one (pointing to the Scotty brand) makes my lawn green.

FS: Woman exit stage right.

CU: Husband, confused.

HUSBAND: So what’s the difference?

MS: Husband and Wife.

SFX: Tress rustling.

INSTERT SHOT: Trees behind the couple begin to move and a young female Myer employee pokes her head out.

MYER EMPLOYEE: About $5.50.

MS: Myer employee begins to recede back into the trees.

FS: Husband and Wife look at each other with apprehension.

FADE-OUT

FADE-IN: Myer logo and slogan appear.

ANNCR: Myer, higher ethics lower costs.
